“The first sculpture object I built was Displaced/Replaced Mass, which used granite blocks set inside three depressions in the ground which were lined with concrete. These materials were close to the existing materials of the region. The rock was gray, the concrete was gray, the enitre work was colorless. The materials were chosen for there nature and application. What it look like was not the issue. I hope to find this as a surprise at the end of the work rather than use known factors in a calculated manner to achieve predictable results.” « La première sculpture que j'ai construite était Displaced/Replaced Mass [Masse déplacée/replacée], laquelle se composait de blocs de granit placés à l'intérieur de trois dépressions dans le sol qui étaient doublées en béton. Ces matériaux étaient proches des matériaux existants de la région. La roche était grise, le béton était gris, l’œuvre tout entière était incolore. Les matériaux ont été choisis pour leur nature et leur fonction. A quoi cela ressemble, ce n'était pas le problème. J'espère le découvrir une fois l’œuvre terminée, comme une surprise, plutôt que d'utiliser des éléments connus, de façon calculée, pour obtenir des résultats prévisibles. »
